Word placement matters, even if it only tickles our unconscious. In the title, I wrote, “Don’t Really” rather than “Really Don’t”. If you really don’t want to do something I probably can’t help. “Really don’t” creates a much stronger barrier than what I wrote.

If you don’t really want to start something you’ve been putting off, my tactic might help. In fact, I’m using it now. I don’t want to write an article. Or a story, or a poem, or much of anything. I’m feeling uninspired and overwhelmed by life right now, and a little drained of creativity. I know the feeling won’t last forever because I’ve been at this game a long time.

I also know it’s important to try and do something, so I’m doing a little, which is a lot better than nothing. Always. I’m writing. It’s not much of an article, but it’s something. If your house is a mess, just put your clothes away, or just organize the books. Just 10 jumping jacks. Just a one sentence text. It’s a start. You may do more after your first tiny task. You might not. You might do another tiny task tomorrow.

It’s all forward motion and that’s what matters.

I was only going to write 150 words just to clear away a few cobwebs, but I’ve done more than I planned. See how that works? 231 words.
